Movie @ 12 Year Old Rye, NY Boy Debuts Friday
In 1939, 12-year-old Donn Fendler of Rye became lost on Mount Katahdin in Maine. Separated from his family by a fast-moving storm, Fendler fought to stay alive during his nine-day adventure lost in the remote wilderness of Northern Maine. The search for Fendler became a national obsession. The book Lost on a Mountain in Maine was published in 1939 and a graphic novel was published back in 2012 when the producers of the now movie were looking to raise $15,000 to shoot the early pieces of the film.
The movie Lost on a Mountain in Maine, based on this true story, comes to theaters on Friday, November 1, 2024. Luke David Blumm plays Donn Fendler, Paul Sparks plays Mr. Donald Fendler and Caitlin FitzGerald plays Mrs. Ruth Fendler. The film is directed by Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger and produced by Sylvester Stallone, Braden Aftergood, Dick Boyce and Ryan Cook.
MyRye.com interviewed Ryan Cook, one of the filmmakers, this past summer. While Donn Fendler passed away in 2016 at the age of 90, his 96-year-old brother Tom Fendler still lives in Rye. He told MyRye.com in August he remembered Donn’s disappearance “as if it was yesterday, not 85 years ago.”
Locally, the film is playing at Regal Cinemas at the New Roc complex in New Rochelle.
