It was a back-and-forth affair between Rye Football and Yorktown on Friday night, but it was the Garnets who scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away with a 35-21 victory. Rye led by as much as 21-6 in the first half, let the lead slip away, but bore down and found a way to win a wild game in Week 6.

Ty Ramachandran scored the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter to cap off a career day. The senior rushed for 111 yards on 18 carries in another start with Chris Iuliano still out injured. His 8 yard scamper with 10:28 to play put Rye in front for good.

Other TD scorers for Rye were Archer Fenton and Carson Miller on the ground and Jake Kessner and Henry Shoemaker through the air. The Garnets’ defense only allowed seven points in the entire second half, and none in the fourth quarter.

The game had a crazy start, with Yorktown scoring on the opening kickoff, Rye blocking the ensuing PAT, and then Miller hitting Shoemaker for a 75 yard score. Head Coach Dino Garr’s club led 7-6 after just 36 seconds of game time. As the teams settled down, the Garnets wore the Huskers out on the ground and managed to come away with the victory.

Rye (7-0, 5-0) remains undefeated after this electric league win on the road. They will look to avenge a difficult loss last year in their next game – ‘The Game’ – against Harrison. The scene shifts to Nugent Stadium on Saturday, October 26 for a 3:00pm start. Watch it here.
