A Rye Fire Department headquarters open house in downtown Rye on Sunday, October 6, 2024 highlighted fire prevention week. Residents were able to meet their local firefighters and learn about fire safety initiatives.
There were safety demonstrations, interactive stations, and a live vehicle extrication demonstration. The event also featured food and fun giveaways. New enhancements to the fire safety program for 2024 included a new Sparky the Fire Dog mascot and an inflatable safety house, where children could walk through different rooms to learn essential fire safety practices.
“We are dedicated to educating our community about fire safety,” said Captain Clyde Pitts of Rye FD. “Our members truly enjoy spending time in the community, especially with our youth, and these events allow us to connect and share important safety information in a fun way.”-
The Rye Fire Department is continued its commitment to fire safety with visits to local schools and daycares throughout the week. Firefighters taught children critical safety skills such as “stop, drop, and roll”, how to crawl low under smoke, and the importance of having a fire escape plan with a designated meeting place.
