Rye School Boss to Retire
The Board of Education will accept a retirement letter from Rye City School District Superintendent Eric Byrne at its meeting this Tuesday evening, October 22, 2024. Byrne will serve until the end of the current school year – June 30, 2025.
Byrne took over eight years ago in 2017 from interim head Brian D. Monahan. Monahan had been brought in after Frank Alvarez ended his contract earlier than expected in the summer of 2016. He joined from Chappaqua, where he had been Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Chappaqua.
“I have always believed that schools must work to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators, collaborators, creative problem solvers, and caring individuals,” Byrne said in a note Monday evening to the school community. “It has been an absolute pleasure for me to do my part in supporting the schools here in Rye in doing so. Wherever my path may lead, I will continue to further that effort.”
He complimented the school’s administrators, teachers, and staff, as well as the trustees on the Board of Education. There is no word on Byrne’s next plan, or the process for the selection of the next Superintendent. It would be expected the Board will form a search committee and initiate the process promptly.
UPDATE: Monday evening Board of Ed trustees issued a communication thanking Dr. Byrne and said it would issue a RFP at Tuesday’s meeting for a search firm to help with the selection process for a new Superintendent.
