Garnet Volleyball Sweeps Edgemont in Convincing Round 1 Victory
The #7 Rye Volleyball Team made quick work of #10 Edgemont in the teams’ first round matchup in the Section 1 Class A tournament on Friday evening, sweeping the Panthers 25-16, 25-16, 25-17 (3-0). With the win, the Garnets advace to the quarterfinals in their bracket, where they will go upset hunting against #2 Byram Hills.
Ashley Dehmer continued to prove why she is one of the best players in the state with a stellar 30 assists (10 per set), which pushed her over the quadruple digit threshold. For her career, Dehmer now has over 1000 assists, and has at least one more game to continue to add on to that total.
She passed primarily to Phoebe Greto (13 kills), Anna Nolasco (11 kills), and Erin Ball (9 kills) in the balanced team effort. The Panthers simply could not stop Rye’s offense all night.
Greto also had 4 blocks, while Ball found great success from the service line with 2 aces. Nolasco and libero Emma Lunstead both had 10 digs to tie for the team lead in a strong defensive showing as well.
After playing one of its best games of the season, the team (13-6) will look to keep their championship dreams alive against #2 Byram Hills. The Bobcats are coming off a 3-1 victory over #15 Nanuet and will host the game. The date and time for that contest are still TBD. Watch the win vs Edgemont here.
