In Memory: Dr. Eric Allen Jaffe, Age 82

Obituary - Eric Allen JaffeDr. Eric Allen Jaffe of Rye, NY died on November 24, 2024.

He was born in New York on April 7, 1942 to Ruth Stern Jaffe and Robert Irving Jaffe. He lived in the Bronx until he was 8 years old and then moved with his parents and his sister, Ceceila, to Woodmere, NY. He graduated from Lawrence High School, attended Cornell University, majoring in mathematics and then went to medical school at SUNY Downstate.

Eric joined the full-time faculty at Cornell University Medical College in 1972 and eventually became a Professor of Medicine there, working primarily in basic research on endothelial cells, the cells that line the insides of blood vessels.

In 1996, Eric left Cornell to become Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn.

He met his wife, Barbara Ruth Little, on the top of Aspen Mountain in 1969. They were married on February 25, 1971

He and Barbara lived and raised their children, Matthew and Alison, in Scarsdale for 50 years, where he loved sitting on the back deck reading The New York Times in all kinds of weather.

Eric is survived by his wife, children, Matthew’s wife, Genevieve, his grandchildren, Amanda, Lindsay, and Shane, and his sister, Cele.

Eric loved cars, especially Porsches. He also loved skiing, playing basketball, and tennis.
