Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Varsity Swimming and Diving MVP: Kayla Lombardo
Rye – Rye Neck – Blind Brook Varsity Swimming and Diving Head Coach Katie Konopka has named her 2024 MVP – Kayla Lombardo, a senior from Rye High School. Here’s what Konopka had to say about her star swimmer:
“Kayla Lombardo is the senior most valuable swimmer this season. Kayla has shown tremendous growth both in and out of the pool over the last four years. This year, she qualified for the NYSPHSAA State Championship meet in the 100-meter breaststroke and helped all three relays qualify for the meet… She served as team captain and a mentor for the younger swimmers this year.”
Lombardo consistently found herself atop the final standings compared to both her teammates and opponents throughout the season. She played a key role in her team’s massive victory over previously-undefeated Eastchester and an even larger role in their prior victory over Byram Hills – Briarcliff – Pleasantville – Valhalla – Westlake. At states – her final high school competition – she placed 17th in the 100M breaststroke and helped three relay teams combine for a Section 1 victory. Lombardo earned all-league honors for her successful season.
Beyond 2024-25, Lombardo is committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Siena College in Loudonville, New York next fall as a swimmer in the Class of 2029.
