Rye Varsity Field Hockey MVP: Kate Morreale
Rye Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach Kelly Vegliante named Kate Morreale as her MVP for the 2024 season. Morreale was a key offensive contributor all year for the Garnets in her senior season as team captain. Here’s what Vegliante had to say about her star player:
“Kate Morreale was this season’s captain and three-year varsity player. She plays field hockey year round and is passionate about the sport. She is a natural born leader both on and off the field… She is a playmaker and a fierce opponent to the top programs. She was our key player on corners who always found the open player in front of the goal. Other league coaches [would] compliment her on her skills and vision on the field.”
Morreale played a pivotal role all season for Rye, who ranked fifth in Lohud’s rankings at their peak. She received all league, all section, and all state recognition for her efforts (one of two Garnets to claim those three accolades, joining Caroline Doyle). Vegliante described her as “deserving of these awards.”
The graduating senior will be continuing her field hockey career at Williams College in Massachusetts next year as a member of the class of 2029.
