Probably much warmer than usual, and estimated 1,000+ people from all over Westchester, including local law enforcement, firefighters, families, local high school groups and others, came out Saturday, November 9, 2024 to plunge into the freezing Long Island Sound to raise funds and support Special Olympics New York (SONY) athletes. The event is one of the profitable fundraisers for the Special Olympics New York.

In 2023, there were over 1,500 participants raising more than $260,000. This year’s goal was to raise $265,000. The funds go towards supporting SONY’s mission of promoting authentic sports and inclusion to people with intellectual disabilities. Participants raise money by asking friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances for donations.

Rye High School fielded a group of National Honor Society members that took a plunge into Long Island Sound. Take a look:
