Rye Hockey Explodes for Double Digit Thumping of Byram Hills
Rye Varsity Hockey entered the win column with authority on Wednesday evening, crushing the Byram Hills Bobcats 10-0. Rye took the lead just 2:35 into the first period and cruised from there.
“This was a complete game for us,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com. “We have been playing good hockey all along but mistakes found a way to bite us. Tonight we were nearly perfect in every zone.”
One of those zones was the offensive zone, where the Garnets poured on ten goals en route to a running clock by the third period. Jamie Morris led the charge with 4 goals, bringing his early-season total up to 6 (1.5 per game average). Behind him, Tyler McDermott scored twice – he is now on a 2-game goal streak in his first varsity season. Dean Kim (short-handed), Trevor Dolan, Ryan Draddy, and Colin Nigro (1st varsity goal) rounded out the scoring for the Garnets.
Sophomore goalie Fernando Mosquera drew the start in goal, making eight saves for the shutout – the first of his varsity career. It comes against last year’s Section 1 Division 2 champions in Byram Hills.
Rye (1-2-1) has now scored 19 goals on the season, and finally have a win to show for it. They next travel upstate to play two out-of-region games, the first being against Northeastern Clinton Central School (NCCS) on Friday, December 20, at 7:30pm. Rye had success upstate last year and will look to do so again as they look to turn this victory into a winning streak.
