The Rye Varsity Indoor Track season got underway over the weekend, as the Garnets began play in 2024-25 at the North Shore Season Opener meet. Several athletes had the opportunity to show off their offseason progress, with eight different competitors recording personal records (PRs), including two boys who recorded two each.

Tino MacKinnon claimed second place in the 1600 meter relay to highlight the day. Ben Truman took fourth in the 600M race, and Sophie Bubcek came fifth in the 55M hurdles. Finishing just outside the top five were Anna Kearney, (6th in the pole vault with a PR) and Alex Schatz (6th in the triple jump with a PR).

Alongside Kearney and Schatz, other athletes to record PRs were: Calvin Holler (shotput), Riley McCarthy (shotput and 1000M relay), Ben Truman (300M relay), Aidan Walker (300M and 55M relays), Sabrina Pereira (55M), and Aidan Schmidt (55M).

The team is back in action at Rockland Community College on Tuesday, December 10. The meet includes more than 25 other schools in a large Section 1 event.
