The Rye Boys Basketball Team came up with a huge win on Tuesday, January 28, defeating the Harrison Huskies 52-47 on the road. The Garnets move to 9-4 on the season and continue the trend of Rye’s dominance over Harrison in the 2024-2025 academic year to this point.

Head Coach Tommy Proudian called the game “A very satisfying team victory… We took their best punch, got knocked down but refused to quit.”

Jake Kessner led Rye with 16 points, followed by Andrew Wilmarth (11 points) and Ben Hudson (11 points, three three-pointers). Matt McCoy knocked down six triples for Harrison, leading all players with 20 points.

“We withstood huge first quarter by McCoy (4 three-pointers, 12 points) and a very aggressive, tough defensive effort in the first quarter and a half by Harrison,” Proudian told MyRye.com after the game. “[We] got ourselves straightened out and prevailed in a big rivalry game. Proud of this group of young men. They’re so resilient – they’ll never give up, no matter how bad things are going.”

The Huskies fed off the crowd in the first half as Proudian noted, jumping out to a 22-11 lead with only four minutes left in the second quarter. From that point on, the Garnets outscored the Huskies 41-25, including 14-5 to close out the first half.

Rye (9-4) pushes their season-long win streak to three as they get more comfortable in Proudian’s first season at the helm. They will look to reach double digits in the win column and make it four in a row in their next game, another big road rivalry showdown at Byram Hills. The contest is set for 7:00pm at the Bobcats’ home gym on Friday, January 31. Watch it here. Watch the win over Harrison here.
