In Memory: “Pat” Patricia Ann Ronan, Age 90
Patricia “Pat” Ronan, a longtime resident of Rye, New York, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025 after an extended, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Born September 20, 1934, to Agnes and Thomas Devanny in Queens, New York, Pat was educated at St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and graduated from The College of New Rochelle, majoring in English, and earning her master’s degree in religious studies from Manhattanville College, an accomplishment she wanted to attain before her 50th birthday. She worked as a freelance writer for IBM before meeting and marrying James E. Ronan, of Eastchester, New York on May 23, 1964. She retired to become a stay-at-home mother and raise their two children, Joseph and Catherine in Rye, New York. She and her husband later relocated/retired to the Hammock Dunes Club, Palm Coast, Florida in 1995.
Pat was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt whose life revolved around her family. A devout catholic, Pat was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Resurrection, Rye, NY and Santa Maria Del Mar, Flagler Beach, Florida. With her innate nature to serve others, Pat was a ‘career’ volunteer. She was an ESL tutor for many years, sponsored underprivileged children anonymously, MOW volunteer, and through Santa Maria Del Mar mentored people down on their luck. A lover of literature and the arts, Pat was an avid reader and season ticket holder at The Metropolitan Opera. Above all else, she was an intelligent, loving and selfless human being.
Pat is survived by her son, Joseph (Jennifer), her daughter, Cathy (Claudia), three grandchildren (Mollie, Maybrie, Maura), cousin, Marianne McKenna, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James, parents, Agnes and Thomas Devanny, her sister, Dolores, and many aunts and uncles.
The family would especially like to thank her longtime aide and companion, Sally Blake, of Palm Coast, Florida, who was Mom’s “Wing Man” and special caretaker the last several years. Thank you to the staff at Market Street Assisted Living Palm Coast, Florida and Gentiva Hospice Care for their compassionate care.
All funeral arrangements will be private.
