The Rye Indoor Track and Field Team completed their 2024-25 season on Sunday, February 23, as the team took part in the State Qualifier meet at Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. Despite having no top two finishers in any individual event, four athletes ended their campaigns with personal bests, while three others will still have something to train for in March.

Aidan Schmidt (300M relay) set a new personal record (PR) with a time of 36.54, capping off his senior season with a solid time in his only event. Alex Schatz ran the 55M hurdles in 8.75 seconds for a PR in his final high school event. His younger sister Kate Schatz placed eighth in the very competitive triple jump event with a solid PR of 33-06.50 (10.22 meters). Lastly, Jill DeSanto finished 8th out of 29 competitors in the 55M relay in the preliminary race, earning a chance in the finals. She was the closest Rye came to a state qualifier. Her 7.58-second race in prelims was a new individual best.

“It’s always great to see the kids have that one final race in the season and go out hitting either a season best or a PR as we close things out,” Head Coach Bryan Johnson told MyRye.com after the meet. “[And] we do have three athletes competing at Nationals a few weeks from now.”

Tino MacKinnon (1600M), Erin Ball (high jump), and Ben Truman (800M) are the three Garnet athletes whose seasons are still not over, as they will be heading to Armory for a four-day nationals event starting Thursday, March 13, 2025. They have had exceptional seasons each and will look to finish the year at the summit. Learn more about Nationals here.
