Rye Squash Champions FairWest League for First Time Ever

For the first time in program history, the Rye Boys Varsity Squash Team has won the FairWest League Cup.

Rye defeated StreetSquash in a 7-0 sweep on Thursday, February 27, to clinch the league title and cap off the season. The Garnets finished 11-3, their highest win total under Head Coach Quan Hyunh’s decade-plus at the helm.

“I’m extremely proud of the boys claiming the FairWest Cup for the first time in program history,” Hyunh said after the match. “Under the leadership of captains Andrew Chun and Philip Nemeth, they have left their mark.”

Chun and Nemeth both swept their individual opponents in three games, as did Charlie Rodilosso (#1), Rocco DeFife (#4), and Harry Ellis (#5). In the #3 and #7 positions, Nate Kim-Reuter and Michael Talbott both won in four games respectively.

The win caps off an incredible season for the Garnets, who at one point were 3-3 and struggling to find consistency after Rodilosso and Chun. Excluding nationals, the team squashed those worries (no pun intended) with eight straight victories and significant contributions up and down the lineup.
