Douglas “Doug” Stroetzel of Perry Point, MD and formerly of Annapolis, passed away on March 12, 2025. He was born on May 3rd 1961 in Rye, New York. His early childhood was spent in Rye and Vista, New York then moving to Annapolis, Maryland in 1972.

Doug is preceded in death by his Father, Glenn Paul “Skip” Stroetzel, Rye, NY; and his Brother, Craig Paul (Doodle) Stroetzel, Annapolis, MD. He is survived by his Mother, Beatrice Lowrie Bland, Richmond, KY; and his Brothers, Stephen (Judy) Stroetzel, Annapolis, MD and Brian (Michelle) Davies, Winchester, VA. In addition, he leaves a daughter, Christine M. (Angelo) Stroetzel DeMarco, four grandchildren, Livia, Valentina, Claudia, and Luca, all of Rome, Italy.

After graduating from South River Vocational Technical Electrical Training Program (Annapolis, MD), Doug entered the US Navy. He spent most of his time on the USS Goldsborough (DDG-20). While stationed in Hawaii he sustained a motorcycle accident resulting in a severe Traumatic Brain Injury. This occurred four months after his marriage to Mary Ann Damore and the birth of his only child, Christine. Doug was truly a child of the seventies, one who “did it all”. He returned to Maryland where he resided at Perry Point VA Medical Center until his death.

He will be remembered as a gentle, loving soul who brought joy (and head scratching) to his family and to his caring medical team. Because of their committed care to fostering and developing his abilities through programs and experiences, Doug lived and thrived for 38 years with his Perry Point family. Doug’s family will be eternally thankful for all that was done to help his light shine brightly and meaningfully. Doug’s final years were made comfortable by the devoted staff of Floor 14A who cared for him in ways that highlighted their professional skills and commitment-ways that made Doug thrive and brought comfort to his family. Interment of ashes will be in the Veteran’s Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. A celebration of Doug’s life is planned for this summer in Annapolis. Arrangements are being handled by Lasting Tributes in Annapolis, MD.
