Rye Hockey lost in their New York State quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 8, 2025, dropping a tightly-contested decision to
Ogdensburg Free Academy 3-2. The score was tied 2-2 heading into the third period, by pressure from OFA finally paid off, and Rye could not find the equalizer.

“We had our chances throughout the game,” Head Coach Pete Thomas told MyRye.com. “We traded chances in the 3rd but they found a loose puck in a scrum that was fired for a seeing-eye goal to go up 3-2.”

Tyler McDermott scored both goals for Rye, a power play goal in the first period from Dean Kim and Max Niejadlik and an unassisted short-handed tally in the second period to tie the score at 2-2. Rye only earned one power-play in the game.

Fernando Mosquera made 40 stops in the defeat, which was Rye’s first since January 17th against Rye Country Day. In the seven week stretch following, the Garnets went 11-0, including a sectional championship beatdown of Pelham and strong wins over Mamaroneck, Scarsdale on senior night, and Byram Hills in the playoffs, and more. They also defeated Suffern in the early portion of the season in a monumental victory and took home first place in the early-season Applebee’s Winter Classic tournament.

Rye finishes the year 16-6-1 and as Section 1 Division B champions.
