Season Outlook: 2024-25 Rye Boys Varsity Golf

If the Boys Varsity Golf Team is not the youngest projected varsity roster at Rye High School, they will be close. A very young and inexperienced group led by one of the longest-tenured head coaches at the school, Pat Romano, creates a unique dynamic for the Garnets as they look to recapture the magic from last year that led them to a 14-2 record.
“I am really looking forward to this season,” Romano, who has coached this team for 29 years, told MyRye.com. “Our goals for this year are to win a league title, qualify as many kids for sectionals as possible, and to win a Section I team championship.”
Those are lofty goals for a team that Romano himself describes as “very talented and young.” Four or five projected starters are in tenth grade or below, including Derek Bisceglia (10th), Ryan Mascali (9th), Graham Erickson (9th), and Ryker Kevorkian (9th). Other 9th- and even 8th-grade athletes are expected to compete for the seventh starting spot and other match time.
In terms of veteran experience, Ben Hammer and Nate Allison are seniors who should slide into a consistent starting role for Romano match in and match out. Allison will serve as the captain for the 2025 spring. “He is like having another assistant coach,” Romano said of his standout senior. “He is a great role model for the younger kids on the team and he helps me with a lot of administrative duties.”
General youth throughout the lineup is counterbalanced by experience from last year. Bisceglia and Mascali both earned All-Section honors last year, while Erickson came up just shy as a middle schooler. Romano believes the time on the course last year will be key to allowing the underclassmen to succeed in starting roles.
The Garnets begin league play on Monday, April 7th. Rye is looking forward to five matches in particular once the season gets going: two against Harrison, two vs Scarsdale, and a rematch with RCDS after a spirited match last year.
