Three Police Departments Chase Suspects from Rye Colony into Louden Woods

Coordination wins the day.

Three local police departments working together gave chase to fleeing crime suspects on Tuesday evening. After apparently abandoning their vehicle, the suspects were chased in the Rye Colony and Louden Woods area until two of the men were placed under arrest.

On Tuesday evening (March 11, 2025) at 7:37 pm, Rye PD officer were dispatched to the Rye Colony Apartments located at 1 Peck Ave on a report of several males fleeing from an abandoned vehicle. Police units arrived on scene and observed the vehicle to be a black 2025 Nissan Altima bearing NY Registration LRF2969 parked, unoccupied, engine running and with three flat tires.

The vehicle was identified as the same vehicle being pursued by Greenwich Police Department minutes earlier at 7:20pm in regards to an attempted vehicle larceny. Greenwich PD reported that they attempted to stop the vehicle and utilized “stop sticks” (a tire deflation device) but were unsuccessful. The Rye dispatcher notified responding units that he was receiving multiple calls stating that the occupants of the vehicle were running through resident’s yards.

A Rye police officer observed one male wearing all black run up Beaty Court into the wooded area at the dead end. As the officer attempted to detain the subject, he pulled his arm away and began sprinting away from the location towards Thistle Lane. After a brief foot pursuit the subject finally stopped and was placed under arrest while on Thistle Lane. The subject was identified as 19-year-old Muhammad S Abdulmalik of the Bronx.

With the assistance off the Port Chester Police Department the second subject identified as 20-year-old Yadiel Baez of Waterbury, Connecticut was apprehended a short distance away on Midland Avenue at the intersection of Peck Avenue. Beyond the two individuals arrested, the exact number of individuals fleeing from the vehicle is unknown.

Both arrested parties were transported to Rye Police Headquarters where they were processed, fingerprinted and charged with Penal Law 195.05 01 Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd, a Class A Misdemeanor, for evading arrest. It is unknown at this time if Greenwich PD has any charges pending.

The defendants are due back in Rye City Court on March 25, 2025 at 9:00am. Booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
