Truman, Ball Put a Bow on Rye Indoor Track Season at Nationals

The winter sports season in Rye is offically over, as the last competitors, two repsentatives from the Rye Indoor Track team, completed their final events of the year. Ben Truman (boys) and Erin Ball (girls) were the last athletes standing, and both had solid showings at nationals over the past weekend (March 14-15) in their individual events.
Ball completed the high jump event with a height of 5′ 1″. She concludes her first year as a track and field athlete as the best and most consistent performer on the girls side, especially in her speciality event.
Truman ran in the 800-meter relay over the weekend, 200M longer than his typical event. The discrepancy in length meant truman had to prepare for a whole new event. He raced to the finish line in 2:01:22, a time that both he and Head Coach Bryan Johnson were pleased with.
“We’d talked about an ideal time for him, so we structured the last week and a half of our training around some race strategies and geared the workouts towards hitting that mark,” Johnson told MyRye.com. “We were both very happy with the result.”
Ball, Truman, and many of their teammates from the winter will now shift their focus to the spring outdoor track and field season.
