Boys Tennis Drops Match to RCDS

Rye Boys Tennis fell to RCDS in their first match of the season in a non-conference, non-league away game. With a final score of 5-2, the Garnets lost three of the four super third set tiebreakers.
“Although RCDS won 5-2, Rye Garnets played well; it is always a spirited competition,” Head Coach Sue Dickson told MyRye.com. “With a new line up (prom and tournaments for some players), new format: 4 singles and 3 doubles, Rye shifted their line up completely.”
Captain Alex Gordon played first singles and lost to Chris Estill 6-3. Although a first doubles player, Lou Kim-Reuter played second singles against Lincoln Feng, losing in a close super tiebreaker after coming back to win the second set. Filip Glitterstam, also a first doubles player, played his first singles match ever and won 6-2, 5-7 (10-4) in the super tiebreaker. Philip Karajanis played fourth singles in his first V1 match, playing an eight game pro set and winning 8-4.
Marcos Becker and Tyga Vurol lost 6-4 playing first doubles. Timothy and Xavier Morell started off strong as a second doubles team, but ultimately lost in another super tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, (5-10) . Dylan Smailes and Carter Hudspeth played at third doubles and also fell in a super tiebreaker 4-6, 6-3 (8-10).
“Rye had to adjust to inside courts with a different surface, no-ad scoring, NCAA rules, and sharing the courts part way through the match with the girls tennis team,” Dickson added. “It was a their big field day with many competitions going on.”
The Garnets play New Rochelle next Monday in an away game.
