The Rye Baseball Team entered the win column on Wednesday, April 2nd, taking down Port Chester 6-2. The Garnets needed to respond quickly after an opening day defeat on Tuesday and did so thanks to strong pitching and clutch hitting.

Freshman Clayton McCarthy picked up the win in his first varsity action, spinning a complete game with four strikeouts. He worked around five hits and two walks in seven frames, only allowing one earned run.

In the batter’s box, Vinny Sculti knocked a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Rye in front. The clutch hit kickstarted a big 4-run rally, which made the final score appear wider than the game actually was. Junior Jamie Morris ripped two doubles in three at-bats and led the Garnets with three runs batted in.

Rye (1-1) will take to the road for the first time this season in their next game, a road contest at Mamaroneck on Saturday, April 5th. First pitch against the Tigers is at 3:00pm.
