The Rye Girls Varsity Rugby Team split their first two matches of the 2025 spring season on Thursday, April 10, dropping the first contest 22-19 to the Harvey School but winning game two 24-7. Rye led on the scoreboard for almost the entirety of both games, but fell in the first contest on a walk-off try by the Cavaliers.

“Rye came out much stronger in the second match against Harvey,” Head Coach Geri Jones said after the doubleheader. “The offense was led by Molly Kennedy in both matches.”

As a team, the Garnets scored 43 points across both matches combined, with Kennedy accounting for 38 of them. She scored six tries and nailed four conversation kicks, including a quartet of scores in the big game two win. Elisa Grani was the lone other try scorer in red, as she downed one in the try zone in the first game.

“The Garnets made a good showing offensively and on the defensive side of the ball for their first time out this season,” Jones said of her team’s effort after game two. Coach [Ally] Furcick and [I] are looking forward to an exciting season.”

Rye (1-1) has two weeks off before their next mini-tournament weekend, where they will play once against Harvey again and once against New Rochelle. Those away matches will take place on Thursday, April 24. Watch the games vs Harvey here.
