The program consists of school visitations during an officer’s tour of duty for the purpose of getting to know faculty, staff, students and parents.
The program hopes to provide safety presentations, discussing the consequences of drug and alcohol use, reading and interacting with young children and serving as a liaison between the school and Rye PD.
Some of the goals and objectives of the program are:
- To provide a visible police presence on school property;
- To encourage the mutually beneficial exchange of information and concerns between the officer and his/her adopted school and build positive relationships with faculty, staff, students and parents;
- Reassure children about their safety and discuss methods they may use to avoid potentially hazardous situations;
- Provide insight on the role of police officers and encourage students to consider law enforcement as a career;
- Contribute to the positive development of the children.
