“Selfie” Fountain at Rye Playland to be Re-Dedicated After Restoration
The Rye Playland fountain, apparently a favorite place for people to take “selfie” souvenir photos of their visit to Rye Town Park, is being re-dedicated after a restoration.
The family of the late park operators Alfred “Zeke” Terenzi and Sam Terenzi is hosting the dedication ceremony in their honor. The park’s decorative "selfie" fountain is located by the park’s administration (towers) building.
The event will be taking place on Saturday, August 27 at 10:30am.
Both Sam and his father Zeke were involved in the operation of Rye Town Park, and many times expressed their desire that the fountain be repaired.
There had been a fountain at that location for many years, but since the early 2000’s it had become damaged by heavy storms and problems with the operation of the pump and electric structure. A new design was made to deal with these problems.
Special thanks go to Lenny Sotolongo, Sotolongo Lawn Sprinkler and John Grieco, Westmore Electric, for their help with the project.
The memorial event is being coordinated by JoAnn Leon, the sister of Sam and daughter of Zeke. People interested in attending are asked to RSVP to [email protected] before 8/20.
