Heard in Rye Zoom Lecture: How to Support K-8 Children in Virtual and Hybrid Learning
Heard in Rye will host a virtual lecture this Wednesday, September 23rd at 7pm entitled How to Support K-8 Children in Virtual and Hybrid Learning. The presenter will be Rye resident Molly Ness, Ph.D., professor and literary researcher. There is no cost.
Ness will help parents understand how to support K-8 children in virtual and hybrid learning. As we adjust to a very different school year, the conversation will focus on supporting children’s socio-emotional health and executive function. Participants will takeaway ready-to-implement do’s and don’ts to start the school year off effectively.
Molly Ness is a former classroom teacher, and she holds a doctorate in reading education from the University of Virginia. Since 2006, she has been associate professor of childhood education at Fordham University – where she teaches masters and doctoral level classes in literacy methods, effective reading instruction, and educational research. Her research on dyslexia, home literacy practices, and reading comprehension has appeared in multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals.
She is the mother of a fifth grader, and has been involved with many local Rye organizations. In 2020, she published her fourth book – which explores the best use of classroom instructional time.
Dr. Ness runs a podcast which brings attention to the 32 million American children who lack access to books in their homes, schools, and communities.
