Varsity Boys Soccer Tops Eastchester 3-2
Varsity Boys Soccer topped Eastchester 3-2 in an away match Friday.
“Rye’s Michael Desmond converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute to help the Garnets complete a come-from-behind win,” said Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Jared Small. “We had tied the match earlier in the second half on what was perhaps our nicest goal of the season–Alex Vollbrecht deposited a one-timer in the upper right hand corner of the goal after Zach Levitt had made a marauding run down the left flank to the goal line. The goal reflected our desire to play with more pace and choose our moments to re-press higher up on the field.”
Rye gave up its first two goals in 520 minutes of play this season but Coach Small told MyRye.com the team showed great character in rebounding from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to take a well-earned 3-2 win on the road.
“I also want to highlight our first goal, a flicked header from Devan Patel off of a Sam Johnson service,” said Small. “Among several standouts today were Ryan Wyckoff with 41 minutes in the center of the midfield and John Sterkaj, whose excellent play at right back for 40 minutes in the second half allowed us to become more dangerous in the attack as well.”
The team moves to a 4-0 season.
