At Nugent Stadium Saturday, Varsity Girls Soccer shutout Pelham in a 4-0 win, advancing to the regional final. “Annabelle Thomas finished the game with two goals and an assist,” said Girls Varsity Coach Rich Savage. “Once again, Reilly Traynor was solid in the back line for Rye, adding two assists to the game as well.”

This was the third meeting of Rye and Pelham this season and once again it was a well fought battle by both teams. After a scoreless first half, Rye came out as a different team in the second half. Rye’s intention after half time was to settle the ball down and play through balls on the ground through Pelham’s high line of defense. The plan was certainly successful.

Annabelle Thomas started the scoring off 3:45 seconds into the half from a beautiful feed from Reilly Traynor. The defender and striker teamed up for the second goal 20 minutes later in the half.

Outside midfield player Zoe Rockas was working the side of the field the entire game. Her hard work paid off when she received a through ball from Annabelle Thomas and perfectly placed the ball for Rye’s third goal. Meredith Tutun took the ball past two Pelham defenders and then set up Maddy Childs for Rye’s fourth goal. Bell Jackson had a solid game in the goal for the Garnets.

The team now carries a 10-1-1 season. On Monday, the Garnets will travel to take on Scarsdale for the Regional Final and the last match of the fall season.
