Boys Varsity Soccer MVP: Luke Burnham
Each day this week, MyRye.com will feature a varsity team MVP from the fall 2020 sports season. The MVPs have been selected by each coach. A big MyRye.com congratulations to all the MVPs.
The Boys Varsity Soccer MVP for fall 2020 is senior Captain Luke Burnham. Luke was a three-year member of the varsity team, a span that has seen Luke and his teammates compile a record of 34 wins, two losses, and three ties since mid-October of 2018.
“As the captain of this year’s squad, Luke provided stability at the left back position and a unifying presence both on and off the field,” said Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “Deservedly, he notched his first career varsity goal in his final match–a 1st minute beauty to put the team up 1-0 en route to a league championship clinching win over second place Eastchester.”
Burnham’s teammates are equally positive on his contributions. “Luke has been one of our most skilled and dependable players and always puts forth a great performance every time on the field. At the same time, he’s an incredibly humble and modest person, making him an exemplary teammate as well,” said Sean Savage, senior center back. And Jack Formon, a junior center back who played in the back line with Luke all season, said “I was really lucky to be able to spend two seasons with Luke and get to know him really well. He’s a natural leader and has definitely earned the respect of his teammates and friends.”
Jack O’Connor, senior goalkeeper, also echoed the senior’s leadership. “Luke was a great leader on and off the field and his presence was always felt by both teams. He was a large part of why our team was so successful this year.”
