Rye City Issues Blizzard Advisory
Rye City has issued the following blizzard advisory:
BLIZZARD ADVISORY
Dear Residents, Neighbors and Local Businesses:
Residents and Businesses are advised to take any final precautions necessary before the major Nor'easter Blizzard hits. At this time, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning from Monday from 1:00 p.m. through Wednesday, 12 a.m. Total Storm Predictions for the Westchester area and Rye are 15 to 24 inches with possibly greater accumulations. The storm will intensify Monday night through Tuesday with wind gusts in coastal areas as high as 50 mph.
Residents are urged to note the following:
Do not park in the street, so that City snow plows and salting trucks can get through and perform plow operations.
It is illegal and unsafe to shovel snow, snow-blow snow or plow snow into the street. It makes is unsafe for emergency and snow plow operations, unsafe for all drivers going along the streets, and unsafe for you as well.
Communication to residents will be sent via Code Red, the City Listserve and the City website (www.ryeny.gov) and posted on the RyeTV scroll.
Plans for opening an Emergency Shelter at the Locust Fire Station are in place if necessary.
If there is a power outage, please contact Con Edison at their customer service number of 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
Please follow safety precautions, particularly staying away from downed wires. Those wires could be live; report any downed wires to Con Edison.
For your safety , please do not run generators indoors.
It is highly likely that travel will be impossible on Tuesday, and perhaps even Wednesday. Snowfall rates are predicted to increase to as much as 2" to 4" per hour.
Be safe, and plan on not traveling for all of Tuesday, January 27, and possibly Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
