Girls Varsity Swimming Splits Another Tri Meet
On Wednesday night, Rye Girls Varsity Swimming split another tri meet, beating Mamaroneck 103 to 80 but falling to John Jay Cross River 79 to 98.
In the Mamaroneck meet, “Senior Ellie Mackle won both of her individual events,” said Rye Girls Varsity Swimming Coach Kelly Johanson. “She won the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke. Ellie is now 22nd on the section top-40 list. If she remains in the top 24 she will qualify for sectionals.”
Julie Tiedemann, Zoe Lien and Caitlin Bedell each placed 1st and 2nd in their two individual events. Tiedemann won the 200 free and placed 2nd in the 100 free. Bedell placed 2nd in the 200 free and won the 100 backstroke. Lien won the 500 free and placed 2nd in the 50 free. The team won two of the three relays – 200 Medley (Bedell, Mackle, Lien, Hofmann) and the 400 free relay (Lien, Tiedemann, Bedell, Mackle). Junior, Mia Waldman placed 3rd in diving.
In the John Jay Cross River meet Seniors Ellie Mackle and Julie Tiedemann each placed 1st and 3rd in each of their individual events. Mackle placed 3rd in the 200 IM and 1st in the 100 breaststroke. Tiedemann was 1st in the 200 free and 3rd in the 100 free. Sophomore, Zoe Lien placed 2nd in the 50 free and 500 free.
