Girls Varsity Soccer Send Byram Hills Into the Valley
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer sent Byram Hills into the valley on Monday. The team won the away game 3-1, improving its season to 2-1-1.
“Rye had a huge battle with league Rival Bryam Hills,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage. “Captain Annabelle Thomas received a cross from sophomore Paige Vanneck beat two defenders to give Rye a 1 – 0. Bell Jackson was solid in the net making key saves to keep the Bobcats off the board. With only two minutes remaining in the game Bryam Hills scored the tying goal with a 35 yard shot.”
As Rye went into overtime, the team picked up the intensity, putting pressure on Bryam Hills. Three minutes into the first overtime, Senior Captain Hannah Bertisch had a perfect corner and sophomore Maddy Walsh found the back. of the net. Two minutes later Maddy stole the ball from Bryam Hills and gave Rye a 3-1 lead. Freshman Alli Koford and Mary Sack were solid in the back keeping Byram Hills off the score board.
The travels to Ardsley 4:30pm Tuesday for their next league match.
