Girls Varsity Soccer Climbs On Top of Byram Hills
Rye Girls Varsity Soccer climbed on top of Byram Hills Friday, taking the win 2-0 in the opening round of the sectional tournament.
“Rye had to face 15th seeded Byram Hills for the third time this season,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage. “After a week off, Rye came out a little flat and the Bobcats stepped up the pressure. Isabel Harvey and Reilly Traynor anchored the back line for Rye, limiting Bryan’s scoring opportunities.”
Savage continued “The start of the second half, Rye came out as a different team. They controlled the pace of the game and both Alex Verna and Hannah Bertisch won the middle of the field for Rye. It wasn’t until there was 8 minutes left in regulation before freshman Bowyn Brown found the back of the net on a perfectly placed shot in the lower right hand corner. Byram’s goalie didn’t have a chance in the perfectly placed ball.”
Reilly Traynor solidified the lead scoring the second goal off a cross from Hannah Bertisch. Bell Jackson was credited with five saves for the win. Watch the replay.
Rye will host the winner of the Yorktown / Horace Greeley game on Monday, 5:00pm at the Rye High School turf stadium.
