Rye Boys Varsity Lacrosse topped Yorktown 14-6 last Thursday to win the Section 1 Class B Championship.

“It was a close game with Yorktown scoring with 1 second left in the first half to make the score 7-6,” said Rye Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach Steve Lennon. “Then we were able to score 7 unanswered goals in the second half. Johnny Hartzell going 85% at the faceoff X was the difference in this game, because it gave us the possession advantage. Credit our defense for keeping them scoreless in the 2nd half.”

Game highlights included:

  • Owen Kovacs: 4g1a
  • Tyler McDermott: 3g
  • Kian McCarthy: 3g
  • Brendan O’Byrne: 3g
  • Carter Barford: 2a
  • Caden Whaling: 1g1a
  • Tommy Greenhaw: 2a
  • Tanner Howson: 1a
  • Johnny Hartzell: 20/23 FO

The Garnets now hold a 16-3 record. They will face Section 9 champions Warwick Valley at Hendrick Hudson High School on Wednesday at 4:30pm.
