Boys Varsity Soccer Bruised by Scarsdale

Rye Boys Varsity Soccer 2022-09-06 vs. Scarsdale

Rye Boys Varsity Soccer was bruised by Scarsdale on Tuesday. The Garnets lost at home 0-2.

“We were outplayed in the first half, and we struggled to possess the ball until we regrouped at the half and came out much more composed in the second half,” said Rye Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “We were ultimately undone by two set piece goals, both of which were made complicated to defend by the conditions. Overall, we learned a ton by playing one of the top Class AA teams and I think we can gain confidence knowing that when we took a deep breath at halftime and recommitted to the identity we wanted to establish, we played a strong second half. We’re also proud that we played with great intensity and spirit right until the end.”

Kyan Cox had a strong match, dealing with extremely slick and wet conditions to make several key saves. Jack Childs, Jack Gilroy, and Max van der Voort all put in particularly solid second halves, helping the squad turn a frenetic first half into a more purposeful brand of play in the second half.

The team’s record moved to 1-1. Watch the replay. The team plays at Mamaroneck Thursday at 5pm – watch it.
