In Memory: Anthony ‘Tony’ DiMarco, Age 77
On September 10, 2022 Anthony ‘Tony’ DiMarco passed away, peacefully, after a short battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.
Tony was born in White Plains and grew up in Purchase, NY. He graduated from Rye High School in 1963, having been an All County running back for the Garnets. He was also a member of the Rye basketball team. Tony graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1967.
Tony took up golf during his caddie days at Old Oaks Country Club and had a very accomplished golf resume. He was a long-time member of the Rye Golf Club where he won five club championships, three Governors Cup titles and scored three of his astounding eleven (11) life-time hole-in-ones! His career best score was 66. He was the Head Golf Coach at Pace University during the ‘70s and ‘80s and three-time winner of the Winged Foot Golf Club ‘Good Guys’ Invitational.
Tony served as Intramural Director, and later Assistant Athletic Director at Pace University. From 1981 to 1996 Tony worked as a valued member of the Metropolitan Golf Association’s Championship Field Team. He worked as Assistant Caddie Master at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY, before moving cross-town to serve as Manager of Outside (Golf) Services at the Doral Arrowwood Golf Club.
Tony is survived by his loving sister Rose DiMarco of Marlborough, MA and his lifelong friend Gene Westmoreland. Local merchants and residents of his little corner of White Plains saw him as their unofficial ‘mayor’. He was a beloved ‘uncle’ to dozens and a loyal and cherished friend to all who knew him! Tony will be missed by many.
At Tony’s request, the family will be having a private service.
