LAST WEEK’S GAME – HARRISON @ RYE

The answer to last week’s question was yes the worm has finally turned as the Harrison Huskies defeated the Garnets 22-7 biting off their first win in nine contests over seven years. Rye leads the all-time series 49-43-3. Besides the traditional fanfare of the RHS/HHS rivalry weekend, fans were treated to the arrival of Rye Class of 1994 Red Bull Sky Diver Jeff Provensano.

GARNETS HOST CLARKSTOWN SOUTH VIKINGS

Crossing the Hudson and finding their way to upstream Blind Brook, in the far distance we see the lanterns of the long boats of the CLARKSTOWN SOUTH VIKINGS arriving at Nugent for only the second time . . . . . ever. You see the Brown and Gold are like a Scandinavian yoyo, annually bouncing between Section One Class A and Class AA based on school student enrollment in grades 9, 10 and 11 every spring.

In 2020 it was Class A, while in 2021 the Vikings found themselves as a small, perhaps the smallest AA school. Now in 2022 South participates as one of the largest single-A squads in Section One.

Not to be taken lightly these plunderers debark undefeated at 5-0 having survived the Huskies by two points in double overtime earlier this campaign. The Vikings look to be an offensive juggernaut averaging forty (40) points of offensive cannon-fire for the season to-date.

Besides its always difficult for the Garnets to re-energize for the game immediately following the traditional Harrison rivalry contest. Those realities coupled with a high-powered, quality opponent in the unbeaten Vikings, makes Rye’s victory margin a scraggly beard hair’s breadth. It’s a slugfest with a last minute Rye field goal the difference at Garnets 38 Vikings 35.
