Rye High Tree Gift Commemorates Football Coach Bedini

The Alumni & Friends of Rye High School has made a donation to the City of Rye and the Rye City School District for the landscaping, tree replacement and the creation of a landscaped plaza on the easterly side of Boston Post Road from Parsons Street to the Rye High School Stadium.

The project is in commemoration of Ben Bedini, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of the Rye High School Garnets from 1954 to 1962. Bedini passed away in 2010. The group plans to raise $25,000 for the project.

The project will include the creation of the “Ben Bedini Plaza” marked with a bronze plaque at the Rye High School Stadium’s northern Post Road gate entrance. Six crimson king maple trees will replace the diseased trees previously removed by the City.

In a letter to Rye City from the group co-founder Stephen Feeney (the OG) says all landscaping installed will be "a species whose foliage in the natural state is a variety of garnet (red)".
