In Memory: Judy E. (Emil) Tenney, Age 94
Judy E. (Emil) Tenney of Rye, New York died peacefully at home on December 28, 2022 at age 94. Born on May 21,1928 to the late Allan D. and Kate S. Emil, she and her brother, the late Arthur Emil, were raised in Brooklyn.
She graduated from Smith College in 1949 and married Warren S. Tenney soon after. She and Warren raised their three daughters in White Plains, later moving to Rye. After Warren’s death in 1994, Judy enjoyed the devoted companionship of the late Robert Haines. She became known for her philanthropic efforts, serving as Chairman of JBI International and President of Westchester Jewish Community Services, and was a longtime board member of UJA-Federation of NY.
Judy earned a Master’s degree from Bank Street College and worked as a guidance counselor at Wiltwyck School. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and Century Country Club. Judy enjoyed sharing her passion for Camp Walden, bridge, travel and the arts with her family. She relished museum visits and trips with her children and grandchildren and frequently attended the symphony, ballet, and theater.
She is survived by her daughters Amy Levere (David), Laura Tenney (Gerry Boone), and Alice Tenney (Budd Wiesenberg), and grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, and Caroline Levere, Jack Boone, and Charlotte and Jane Wiesenberg and great grandchildren, Vivian and Isaac Gordon-Levere. A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 11 am at Congregation Emanuel of Westchester in Rye, NY. Contributions in her memory may be made to JBI International.
