New Councilwoman Lori Fontanes was sworn-in at a New Years Day ceremony at Rye City Hall. Fontanes won the seat last fall in a closely contested election versus former Councilman Matt Fahey . The seat was held by Deputy Mayor Emily Hurd, who was appointed by the Council after Councilman Richard Mecca resigned for health reasons (he passed in April) . Hurd did not run for reelection.
Fontanes was sworn in by City Court Judge Valerie Livingston in front of twenty friends, family, supporters and officials in City Council chambers. Councilman Ben Stacks presided over the brief ceremony, as Mayor Josh Cohn was unavailable. Robin Latimer sang God Bless America.
The first council meeting of 2023 is this Wednesday, January 4th.
