In Memory: Dr. Stephen M. Fisher, Age 89
Dr. Stephen M. Fisher, 89, longtime resident of Pascack Valley, died on Tuesday, January 10th, in Mt. Dora, FL, with his wife Suzanne by his side. He was an orthodontist in Park Ridge and Oradell for five decades.
Dr. Fisher was born in Rye, New York. He grew up in Montvale and attended Park Ridge High School. Here, Dr. Fisher excelled in many sports, especially football, where he was named 1st Team All-State center his senior year. Dr. Fisher graduated from Rutgers University on the dean’s list with a BA in English. Afterward, he served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and upon his discharge taught English in Clarksville, Virginia. Dr. Fisher then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry, receiving the degree of D.M.D. He continued his study of dentistry, specializing in orthodontics.
Dr. Fisher and his family moved back to Park Ridge, where he practiced for many years. He remained very involved with Park Ridge High School, attending games and presenting the “OWL” award each year to the most deserving player. Dr. Fisher was also instrumental in establishing the Park Ridge Athletic Hall of Fame, which he was inducted into.
He loved sports, poetry, ice cream and his family (not necessarily in that order!). Dr. Fisher is survived by his wife Suzanne, three children, three stepchildren and numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren. Donations welcome at christopherreeve.org.
