Rye High School Arts Department teachers, students, families and other supporters perused the halls of the Rye Central Administration building on Thursday evening for the 5th annual gallery opening displaying this year’s student artwork. The corporate walls were brought to life with student art in a mix of digital and physical mediums from grades 9-12 for visitors to view while they enjoyed some refreshments.

The yearly gallery exhibit and tour a tradition in 2019, a year after the Rye Central Administration building moved to its current location off Theodore Fremd Avenue. According to Rye City School District Superintendent Eric Byrne, his goal in bringing the exhibit into the building was to create a greater sense of connection to the students in the otherwise plain office setting and to celebrate the work of the Arts Department.

Despite a break in 2020 due to obstacles created by Covid-19, the yearlong exhibit has become a tradition for the building that they plan to continue and even possibly expand on in the coming years to invite in art from a broader range of students from all of the Rye City Schools.
