In Memory: Douglas Keith Hyer, Age 80
We mourn the death of Douglas Keith Hyer, who died peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the age of 80, after completing his dream of visiting all 50 states by making a trip to Alaska last month. He is survived by his daughters Corry and Melanie, four grandchildren (Archer, Lexie, Savannah and Sienna) and extended family. He is predeceased by Ralph Von, his brother, and his parents Ralph August and Florence Hyer. Doug was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri and went on to get a Masters in Finance. He moved to New York City by way of Chicago, and eventually settled in Manhasset, NY with his family. Most recently, he spent his weekends in Rye helping out with his grandchildren.
Doug had long career of helping people through the financial services industry as a Financial Advisor, a former President of People’s National Bank and an Adjunct MBA Finance Professor at Hofstra University. He was a former Deputy Mayor of Plandome Manor. He was a passionate person with many hobbies and interests including an avid sailor, trumpet player, skier, photographer and triathlete. He had a long-time commitment to the Boys Scouts & Eagle Scouts and was a NESA leader. Most recently he spent his time being “Grandpa Doug” the Ice Cream man, playing hide & go seek with his 4 grandchildren. He did 75 Triathlons in total; which he won 1st place in his age group just 3 years ago. Doug Hyer … he Tri’d so now he can rest in peace.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 5:30pm on Monday, July 10, 2023 in the Chapel at Rye Presbyterian Church in Rye, NY. A reception will follow in the library from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. All are welcome.

Doug “Buzz” and I were boyhood friends from the 1st through the sixth grades and spent many hours together. He went onto his other ventures but we kept in touch. I knew his mother, father and brother and was often in his home. He was quite the trumpet player. We lived but a short distance from one another and was my best friend in the early 1950’s.
It was a huge shock to learn of his untimely passing. I had expected him to live many more years as he was a fitness enthusiast few people achieve. My most sincere condolences to his family.
