It always seems Rye is matched with the SOMERS TUSKERS, first in the Section One Playoffs, followed by the regular season opener of the next campaign. 2014/2015 are no exception with the Garnets herding the Tuskers in the 2014 sectional semi-final and now birthing the 2015 season in the Tuskers home ring.
In recent seasons the Garnets have tussled with the Tuskers, more often than not in the hostile Somers tent for some unknown reason. This contest pits two legendary ringmasters ranking in the stratosphere of New York State Football Coaches. Top Tusker Tony DeMateo ranks fourth in NYS history with 318 wins at Roosevelt and Somers, while the Garnets’ maestro, Garr, is in seventh place at 276 between Rye and Westlake.
DeMateo is the winningest of all active New York State coaches while Garr follows closely in third place Rye leads the budding rivalry with the Silver and Red 7-5-0 (.583) as the 2015 circus parade kicks off. TRIP THE TUSKERS ! TRIP THE TUSKERS !
