An alert resident on Martin Road (off Forest Avenue) looks to have deterred an apparent car theft around 2:00am on Friday, January 26, 2024. The resident observed an unknown male in her driveway looking to enter the parked vehicles.

After receiving a call, Rye PD arrived on the scene and observed a white SUV fleeing the area. A pursuit was initiated and then terminated as the vehicle entered Connecticut. Often the Rye PD will terminate chases for various reasons such as high speed so not to endanger others. In this case the chase was terminated due to the rain and poor road conditions. The white SUV was an Audi stolen from New Canaan. No further case updates were available as of Saturday evening.

In 2023, the City of Rye had 14 vehicles stolen. Earlier in the month we had the report of the first stolen vehicle for 2024. The police report that 99 vehicles have been stolen in 2020, with the number trending down in Rye.

All the vehicles that were stolen had the key fob left inside. Be smart: lock your car doors, secure your valuables, and do not leave your car keys inside your vehicle.
