Rye Boys Varsity Tennis Head Coach Sue Dickson has announced her MVP for the 2024 season: sophomore Henry Groves.

“Henry Groves has been a standout singles player for the Rye High School 2024 team,” Dickson told MyRye.com. ” He has a strong game, hits with pace, and has a strong and steady serve… He carried the team on his back by playing the best players from each school.”

Groves won all but one of his regular season matches this spring, playing through injury in his only defeat. He entered the Sectional Tournament as the 4 seed and won two matches handily before being eliminated by the top seed in the bracket. Groves also just missed out on the third spot for States qualification, the only Garnet to even come close.

“As a sophomore, Groves has much to offer the Rye tennis program and future success is guaranteed,” said Dickson. “He has been a terrific contributor to our program!” She noted that his game will only continue to grow, with two years of eligibility still remaining.
