Superintendent's Report
At the beginning of every meeting, the superintendent of schools, Dr. Shine, provides a report to the Board and community. At this meeting Dr. Shine shared information and achievements in the following areas of student life: Amanda Owens, RHS senior, who was selected as an Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalist; Food Service Special Events – elementary TexMex Fiesta; RHS Winter Pep Rally; Rhythm on Rye's appearance on MSG-Varsity's The High School program; Osborn's 'principal for the morning"; Milton 5th grade guest lecture series by a Cornell Cooperative Extension nutrition expert; Midland's National Geographic Bee school finals and its robot art.
Gifts to the District
The Board expressed appreciation for and accepted gifts from the Giordano family of $1,700 for 7th grade boys basketball uniforms and from Mr. and Mrs. Scott Pickup and family of $1,997.50 for varsity boys basketball uniforms.
Fiscal Constraints and Challenges Report
Business Manager Kathleen Ryan reported on the potential impact of the governor's proposed reduction in state aid and other fiscal changes due to the economy on the 2010-2011 school year budget.
Board Policies
The Board adopted new and revised Board Policies covering Student Discipline, Educational Neglect, and Evaluation of Professional Staff.
