Threat to Hegemony of Sal’s Pizza? Clam Pizza Missle Inbound from New Haven
(PHOTO: Pepe’s white clam pizza AKA heaven. Photo courtesy roadfood.com) MyRye.com is an unabashed fan of Sal’s Pizza, the Mamaroneck mecca of pizza pie. But could the hegemony of Westchester’s finest be threatened by a neighbor to the north? Could the Sound Shore fall in love with white clam pizza?
According to SeriousEats.com and the Westchester County Business Journal, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, a New Haven pizza institution known for its white clam pizza is headed to Westchester. The first location will open in Yonkers in May 2009. But according to the Business Journal, other additional sites are being looked at including New Rochelle, North White Plains, Port Chester and Rye. We’d like to be the first to request a pie, offer to wait first in line (whatever) from the Rye location. Built it here and we will pack the house.
Zagat.com reports on Pepe’s: “mind-boggling” “white clam pie” that “is among the best pizza in the Northeast and maybe the universe”. Check out this video of Pepe’s from Roadfood.com. Mmmmm…
