Rye native James Sands, who we just recently reported on, will be "loaned" from the New York Football Club to Louisville City FC. He will almost certainly gain more playing time.

"When James Sands joins Louisville City FC, it certainly won’t be foreign territory for the New York City FC defender.

The 18-year-old midfielder will be reunited with Louisville City FC head coach John Hackworth, for whom he played on the U.S. Under-17 national team.

The Rye, N.Y. native Wednesday was loaned to the United Soccer League club until Sept. 1. City retains the right to recall Sands at any point during that period subject to Major League Soccer roster compliance guidelines.

“We’re really excited to have a player of James’ quality come in and help this group,” Hackworth said on the Louisville website. “He’s a bright, young talent and we’re glad he is coming with the mindset to contribute as much as he can in this time.

“I’ve known James for some time and have already had the pleasure of working with him, now it’s about hitting the ground running. He looked the part in training already so we will see what he can add during this stretch. We’re ready and I know he is, too.”
