Garnets Field Hockey Shuts Out Somers Again for Easy Win
The Rye Varsity Field Hockey Team tied its season high for goals in one game on Tuesday evening, putting up a 7-spot in a shutout victory over the Somers Tuskers. After beating Somers 3-0 earlier in the season, Rye has now scored ten times and allowed zero against their league rival.
“The girls played as a unit today,” Assistant Coach Theresa Jelalain said in her postgame report. “Everybody contributed to the win… great team effort.”
Despite a bumpy stretch in recent weeks, this convincing win has Rye up to 6th in the Lohud Section 1 power rankings. The Garnets have struggled against teams above them, but continue to avoid upset losses to those below them.
After their 7-0 win on Tuesday, Rye (8-6) will look to get revenge on Lakeland on Thursday, October 15. The Garnets will host the Hornets, whom they lost 4-0 to earlier this month, in hopes of their ninth win of the season. Game time is scheduled for 5:00pm at Nugent Stadium, with a JV game to follow.
